| In the middle of a vast, golden field stands the solitary figure of a harvester - upright, confident, almost monumental in her ordinariness. Julien Dupré grants her silhouette the stature of a heroine, even though he depicts only a woman pausing for a moment from her work. This respectful gaze towards the people of the land, towards their strength and perseverance, lifts the painting beyond a simple genre scene. The artist masterfully renders the texture of the ripe ears of grain and the warmth of the afternoon light resting on the woman's shoulders and on the waving field.
